Latest version.
  • (a)

The Building Code Enforcement Official shall examine premises for which permits have been issued and shall make necessary inspections to see that the provisions of building laws, this Code and other ordinances are complied with and that construction is prosecuted safely. The Building Code Enforcement Official shall, when requested by proper authority, or when the interest of the City so requires, make investigations in connection with matters referred to in this Article and render written reports thereon to the Mayor. The Building Code Enforcement Official or a duly appointed deputy or assistant, shall make the inspections required under the provisions of the chapter. The Building Code Enforcement Official and any duly appointed deputy or assistant, shall have the authority to enter any building, structure or premises at any reasonable hour, upon compliance with applicable provisions of law.

    (b)

Final inspections and certificates of occupancy will be issued after all inspections required on the project have been performed by the Building Code Enforcement Official and by all other City departments that reviewed the building plans prior to the issuance of a permit. A certificate of occupancy is required for all work that adds square footage, changes the use and occupancy, and for all new construction. It is the responsibility of the owner or contractor to call the Building Code Enforcement Official to schedule all required inspections. Prior to scheduling a certificate of occupancy inspection, the owner or contractor must submit to the Building Code Enforcement Official a list of all subcontractors and the contract amount of labor and materials performed on the project. The Building Code Enforcement Official will notify other reviewing departments of the request for a certificate of occupancy inspection and will require the approval of those departments before issuing final approvals.
